Hawkins was the underdog to start proceedings but started on the front foot, breaking early to hold a 3-1 lead.

Trump settled but 'The Hawk' extended his frame advantage by reeling off three in a row to move the score to 7-3.

Trump's display had felt off-key, but he rallied well to claim three frames of his own to narrow the gap back down to one.

Hawkins, though, was unfazed as he won the final two frames to register the title - the fourth major of his career.

"It's been a long time coming. I was at a stage where I didn't think I'd ever win a tournament again," Hawkins said afterwards.

"It just kept dragging on and dragging on. I kept losing in finals and not playing very well.

"I'm absolutely over the moon, delighted."

He continued: "Lucky for me, Judd struggled and sometimes you need a bit of help. Judd helped me out for sure.

"My aim at the start of the season was to try and get back in the top 16.

"To come to the first big tournament and win it is unbelievable. I've just got to build on it."
