Premier League Team of the Week: Foden and Haaland star

Slightly fewer games were played in the Premier League this weekend due to the Carabao Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle United on Sunday, but there were still enough fixture for us at Flashscore to select another Team of the Week!

GK - Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)

The Argentine goalkeeper made four saves in Aston Villa's 2-0 win against Everton, helping to spoil what many thought would be a continuation of the Toffees' resurgence under Sean Dyche.

Emi Martinez put in a solid performance between the sticks as Villa continued their rise up the table under Unai Emery, and was even named the Best FIFA Men's goalkeeper of 2022.

DEF - Emerson Royal (Tottenham Hotspur)

Perhaps one of the shocks of the season so far has been the dramatic change in the form of Emerson Royal, who was once again one of the best players on the pitch when Spurs beat Chelsea 2-0.

The defender has shown signs of improvement at both ends of the pitch and was a key factor in Spurs keeping a clean sheet, making six tackles, winning back possession nine times and winning 12 of his duels - the most of anyone on the pitch.

DEF - Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal)

One of Arsenal's most consistent performers since the turn of the year, Gabriel was once again integral to the Gunners' defence when they beat Leicester City 1-0.

The Brazilian helped restrict the Leicester attack and ensure that Arsenal had a solid base to build from as they continued their push for a first Premier League title in 20 years.

DEF - Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

Crystal Palace managed a 0-0 draw against Liverpool with Marc Guehi captaining the side to their first clean sheet in over a month and only their second of 2023.

The Eagles probably felt they could have taken more from the game, but will undoubtedly be pleased at shutting out the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo - with Guehi instrumental to their solid defensive performance.

DEF - Junior Firpo (Leeds United)

Junior Firpo scored the only goal of the game as Leeds picked up a crucial win in their fight for survival, beating Southampton 1-0.

The former Barcelona defender was influential at both ends of the pitch by defending well throughout and netting the winner to ensure Javi Gracia got off to a winning start as Leeds manager.

MID - Said Benrahma (West Ham)

The performance of the weekend came from West Ham, who gave their own chances of staying up a huge boost with a 4-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

Said Benrahma provided two assists as the Hammers launched a late assault on the Forest goal, scoring four times in 15 minutes to climb away from the bottom three.

MID - Declan Rice (West Ham)

Declan Rice is the second of three hammers players who feature in our side this week, with the England international dominating the midfield throughout the match and even scoring a fantastic curling effort to ensure all three points went to the London side.

MID - Oliver Skipp (Tottenham Hotspur)

Oliver Skipp fired in his first ever Spurs goal to open the scoring in the latest London derby against Chelsea.

The midfielder not only provided that threat going forward but also helped to break up play and stop Chelsea from building any real momentum, forming a solid partnership alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

MID - Phil Foden (Manchester City)

Despite being in and out of the side since coming back from the World Cup, Phil Foden was given another chance when Manchester City travelled to Bournemouth, with the youngster grasping the opportunity with both hands.

Foden scored and provided an assist as City comfortably won the match 4-1, in what turned out to be the midfielder's 200th appearance from the Manchester club.

FWD - Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

Erling Haaland also starred for City in their win against Bournemouth and - like Foden - both scored and assisted as Pep Guardiola's side continued to push towards the top of the league.

The Norwegian now has 27 league goals already this campaign, one more than the highest total that legendary forward Sergio Aguero managed during his time in England.

FWD- Danny Ings (West Ham)

Our final West Ham player in the side for this week is Ings, who netted twice in quick succession in the Hammers' thrashing of Forest.

Ings scored his first goals in a West Ham shirt and will be vital to their chances of staying in the league going into the back end of the season.
